Is created in a historic conference of Trade Unions Coalition for Palestinian BDS (PTUC-BDS)

Translated from English to Rebellion by Beatriz Morales Bastos

In commemoration of International Workers Day Palestinian trade union movement held its first conference of the BDS campaign and announced the formation of the Palestinian Trade Union Coalition by the BDS (PTUC-BDS) *

Statement and request support for the campaign BDS by the international unions

occupied Palestine, May 4, 2011 - In commemoration of May 1 (day of the struggle of workers and international solidarity) was held on Ramallah on April 30, 2011 the first conference of trade unions Palestinians for the boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel (BDS), organized by almost all Palestinian trade union movement, including federations, trade unions and blocks of unions representing almost the entire spectrum of Palestinian political parties .

El movimiento sindical global siempre ha desempeñado a key role in his courageous and exemplary commitment to human rights and the adoption of innovative targeted sanctions against oppressive regimes in a show of solidarity with oppressed people around the world. The union boycott apartheid South Africa stands as a shining example of this tradition of effective solidarity. Today the unions are taking the lead in defending the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, justice, freedom, equality and the right of return of our refugees as stipulated in Resolution 194 of the UN General Assembly. Many of them have taken into consideration the call of Palestinian civil society, and in particular movement association, to adopt the BDS as the most effective solidarity with the Palestinians in our struggle to end Israeli occupation and apartheid. Ending

multifaceted system of oppression (including occupation, colonialism and apartheid) of Israel against the Palestinian people has become a test for humanity. For decades Israel has enjoyed impunity as he continued his gradual ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, particularly in occupied East Jerusalem, the Jordan Valley and the desert Naqab (Negev), his occupation that lasted 44 years, with theft land and natural resources, with its colonization and construction illegal settlements and walls and colonial, with its siege of Gaza, with its ongoing denial of refugee rights, with their incessant wars of aggression and incarceration of political prisoners, and their killing of civilians and demolition of infrastructure free. The systematic destruction by Israel of the Palestinian economy, the expropriation of agricultural land more fertile, and the humiliation and racial discrimination against Palestinian workers have become part of the reality of apartheid that the world should never be tolerated today .

Given the complete failure and the unwillingness of the hegemonic powers to Israel accountable to international law, it is for people of conscience and international civil society, especially the trade union movement, to take concrete action to end the international collusion with decades of violations of international law and human rights by Israel, its institutions and international corporations.

The support of the entire Palestinian labor movement a total boycott of Israel [1] as the most effective form of solidarity with the Palestinian people was the key message of this historic meeting.

The Conference was honored to welcome Joao Felicio, Secretary of Foreign International CUT (Brazilian union representing more than 20 million workers), who expressed their solidarity with the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, in addition to reiterating the commitment of the BDS CUT. The conference received many messages of solidarity from many trade union federations, including the International Federation of Arab Trade Unions, COSATU (South Africa), ICTU (Ireland), plus a large number of individual unions in Canada, Scotland, Italy, France, Spain, Turkey, Australia, USA and other countries. All major Palestinian political parties also enthusiastically supported the conference and the formation of the PTUC-BDS.

The Conference strongly condemned the Histadrut ** and international unions asked to count all their dealings with him because of his complicity with both historical and current violations by Israel of international law and Palestinian rights. The Histadrut has always played a key role in the perpetuation of the occupation, colonization and racial system of Israel by:

  1. publicly support the violations by Israel of the Fourth Geneva Convention and other principles of international rights,

  2. Maintain active business interests in the company of illegal settlements in Israel [2],

  3. Allowing Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank to join the organization [3],

  4. Supporting the war of aggression by Israel against the besieged Gaza in 2008 / 9 [4], later justified the slaughter by Israel of aid workers and humanitarian activists aboard the flotilla of Freedom on May 31, 2010 [5];

  5. Hold

illegally during the decades of occupation, over 8,300 million shekel (about 2,430 million pounds) from the wages earned by Palestinian workers from the Occupied Palestinian Territories [6] and discounted for 'social benefits and other union' that Palestinians in the OPT workers have never received.

Recalling the union slogan "an injury to one is an injury to all" and given the historical role of the global trade union movement in the effective solidarity with the oppressed peoples of the world, PTUC-BDS:

  • I cordially greet all unions in the world for their solidarity with the Palestinian people, especially those who have supported the BDS against Israel,

  • Requests unions around the world showing active solidarity with the Palestinian people BDS implementing creative campaigns that take into account the context as the most effective way to end Israeli impunity. For example:

    • boycotting Israeli and international companies (such as Elbit, Agrexco, Veolia, Alstom, Caterpillar, Northrop Grumman, etc.). And institutions that are complicit in the occupation and violations of international law by Israel,

    • reviewing pension fund investments in order to make investments in Israel Bonds and all companies and institutions that are complicit of occupation, colonization and apartheid in Israel,

    • pressure on governments to suspend the free trade agreements, end arms sales and military relations with Israel, with a view to the possibility of cutting relations diplomatic ties with Israel.

  • Requests dockworkers around the world to boycott the loading and unloading of Israeli ships, as well as the historic step taken by the port workers to suspend worldwide maritime traffic in protest against South Africa apartheid regime, and

  • Requests unions around the world to review and cut all relations with the Histadrut.

These nonviolent measures to make Israel shoulder its responsibilities should continue until it meets its obligations under international law to recognize the inalienable right of Palestinian people to self-determination and fully complies with international law:

  • Ending its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands occupied since 1967 (including East Jerusalem) and the wall and dismantle illegal settlements,

  • Recognizing the fundamental rights of Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality and and ending the system of racial discrimination against them, and

  • respecting, protecting and supporting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in Resolution 194 of the UNGA.

* The Palestinian Trade Union Coalition by BDS (PTUC-BDS) is the largest and most representative of the Palestinian labor movement and includes the following organizations: General Union of Palestinian Workers, Federation of Independent Trade Unions (IFU), General Union of Palestinian Women, Palestinian Union of Professional Associations (comprisinga the professional syndicates of Engineers, Physicians, Pharmacists, Agricultural Engineers, Lawyers, Dentists and Veterinarians), General Union of Palestinian Teachers, General Union of Palestinian Peasants and Co-ops, General Union of Palestinian Writers, Union of Palestinian Farmers, Federation of Unions of Palestinian University Professors and Employees (PFUUPE), Union of Public Employees-Civil Sector in Palestine, and all unions blocks that make up the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions (PGFTU, its acronym in English): Central Office for the Workers Movement, Progressive Labor Union Front, Workers Unity Bloc, Progressive Workers Block, Workers Solidarity organization, Workers Struggle Block, resistance Workers block, Workers Liberation Front, Union of Palestinian Workers Struggle Committees, National Initiative (al-Mubadara) Block.

The warning in the system of penalties of the Data Protection Act requires Internet

Among the changes the penalty system LOPD, one of the most significant is the addition of warning as an exception, in some cases, alternative to the opening of the prosecution.

On a recent day, the Deputy Director of the English Agency for Data Protection said a series of questions about the warning, which commented on the blog "legal downloads."

reform

The Organic Law on General Election System ( LOREG ), has over 25 years and is absolutely outdated in some questions since the widespread use of Internet . Basically, with regard to day of reflection and a ban on publication of polls in the last 5 days of the campaign . In both cases it is very simple, and unpunished, breach of the provisions of the Act, which seems necessary to reform the LOREG to suit the times.

Fito Paez joined the list of musicians accomplices of the State of Israel

In recent years, the international campaign for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) of Israel is calling on the international community to join the peaceful boycott against the State of Israel.

Like apartheid in South Africa, this initiative has achieved excellent results, obtaining the support of leading personalities from the world of culture, music, art, etc., who have canceled their visits to Israel until it respects international law and not end with the occupation of Palestine. Such has been the case with artists like Elvis Costello, Pixies them, Carlos Santana, Gil Scott-Heron, Vanessa Paradis, the English filmmaker Mike Leigh and bassist and founder of Pink Floyd, Roger Waters.

However, the Argentine singer Fito Paez has confirmed a tour of Israel, with two shows scheduled for 4 and 6 June.

other Argentine artists as León Gieco, Mercedes Sosa, Charly Garcia and Diego Torres, have been submitted in previous years in Israel before the huge community of Argentine Jewish settlers living in occupied Palestine, ignoring the call of the BDS and joining international complicity.

For nearly a century, the Palestinian people is in serious existential threat to the facility in his homeland of a colonialist project that led to the partition of Palestine, the creation of the state Israel, a conflict that has been manifested through massacres and wars. Since 1967, in contravention of the law Internationally recognized borders and overwhelming international consensus by the UN, the State of Israel militarily occupied areas of the West Bank, Golan Heights and, since 2006, a strict blockade on the poor population of over a million and a half souls in the small Gaza Strip, declared it block by respected international human rights bodies such as the causing of a "humanitarian disaster." In addition to the blockade, the state government of Israel has ordered the implementation of systematic bombing of the dense region of Gaza's civilian population, having been the most notable of late 2008 and early 2009, which killed about 1400 Palestinians third of them children.

Lately, the government of Israel has intensified the expansion of its colonies on the militarily occupied areas, carrying out the ongoing destruction of family homes, fields, factories, historic buildings and even Palestinians in what appears to be an attempt erase the history of the Palestinian people in their homeland and to conclude the final phase of colonial expansion plan includes the construction of settlements for the Israeli settlers who settled there succulent stimulated by economic benefits. As stated by virtually all international agencies and governments, the expansion of these settlements are the biggest obstacle for conflict resolution and constitute a grave war crime. Result of these colonial practices, Palestine living in a very similar situation to Apartheid that existed in South Africa's "white" end of last century, with walls, fences and checkpoints that Palestinians subjected to imprisonment, loss of job opportunities, study and proper health treatment, humiliation and arbitrary violence on a daily basis.

In this situation, workers around the world, through their organizations and associations, are organizing to promote a campaign of boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) to the State of Israel, and solidarity in response to the call of Palestinian Civil Society 2005 (http://www.bdsmovement.net/). The state of Israel is a regional ally and as such has virtually unconditional protection of U.S. imperialism, a permanent member of the Security Council of the UN, and in several other cases of neo-colonial governments of the European Union. However, there is a growing movement in U.S. society that is being revealed to the traditional policies of the U.S. foreign policy the grant of colonialism and the Israeli occupation (http://www.endtheoccupation.org/). Intra-Jewish population worldwide, there is a growing movement that opposes the occupation and even promotes the BDS as one of the most promising ways to end the Israeli Apartheid, in response to this call non-violent, peaceful, to end the abuses of Palestinian rights, as well as in 90's the world through international pressure, was able to end the segregationist Apartheid in South Africa at that time. Among these Jewish organizations, we have the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network (IJAN, websites in Argentina http://judiosantisionistasargentina.blogspot.com/; http://boicot-desinvercion-sanciones.blogspot.com/).

Within this context, you are passing by Argentina, Buenos Aires, a founder of and driving IJAN BDS campaign in Europe, Ms. Cordova-Kaczerginski Liliane. Born in France to Jewish parents in Lithuania survivors of World War II-Kaczerginski Córdova was raised in Buenos Aires, having attended a Jewish school in his teens Zionist, adhering as many young Jews at that time the Zionist youth movement. He attended the Faculty of Arts, UBA, and in 1969 traveled to Occupied Palestine / Israel, which ended the careers of Arts and Sociology. Shortly after arriving, and after his relationship with Palestinian students from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem native of Galilee, he was made clear the discriminatory and racist society and the Israeli regime, which leads her to deepen their knowledge of the history of the Zionist movement and the Palestinian Arab cause. He was an active member of socialist and anti-Zionist Jewish Israelis Matzpen (compass by the name of the newspaper), which at its peak totaled just one hundred people, but that was hardly ideological, perhaps more abroad, this group largely came into contact with the DFLP, Fatah and others with a small Trotskyite group orientation, and the PFLP. He is currently minister of education in a secondary school in Paris, where he resides, and has published several articles and interviews Rebelion.org network and other media.

In a joint effort IJAN Argentina, In Our Name NO (Tucumán), under the auspices of ADIUNT, Agrupación Feminista "The Lilith" and the Federation of Argentine-Palestine, Ms. Liliane Cordova-Kaczergisnki will to Tucumán and open, with a special exhibition entitled Debate Chat "The boycott as a strategy against the Israeli apartheid" in ADIUNT House, La Rioja 437, on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 21 hrs.

National Committee Boycott (BNC / BNC) greets participants in the Global Day of Action for the BDS and the Israeli Apartheid Week

12 April 2011

by Palestinian BDS National Committee

occupied Palestine, April 12, 2011

The BDS National Committee (BNC), a coalition representing a large majority of society Palestinian civil warmly welcomes the participants in the Global Day of Action for the BDS by Earth Day, March 30, and 7th Israeli Apartheid Week (7 to March 13, 2011).

March 30, the day of the 35th celebration of Earth Day, a day of Palestinian resistance in memory of the 1976 protests against the confiscation by Israel, during which six Palestinians of Israel were killed and hundreds more arrested and injured, was marked by demonstrations throughout Gaza, West Bank and Israel . The BNC called a third Global Day of Action to mark the International Day. Of the more than 60 actions that were carried out in 21 countries, some of the most exciting were:

§ The official launch of the international campaign to stop the Jewish National Fund, a key pillar of the colonization of Palestine, which enjoys charitable organization status [nonprofit] in over 50 countries and operates worldwide as a fund raiser for Israeli colonization and apartheid. The Campaign was active and appeared in U.S., Britain and Italy.

§ An activity on the campus of Carleton University [Canada], consisting of closing of a meeting of the Board of Directors of the university who had refused to consider a motion on disinvestment, and the announcement of support from Archbishop Tutu to building a giant model of the apartheid wall at the University of Arizona

§ acividades, demonstrations and publicity campaigns in countries where the BDS is still in its early stage of development, as Poland, Czech Republic , Morocco, Brazil and Argentina .

§ Original and well-organized flashmob, meetings and demonstrations in support of BDS in cities around the world.

§ A Critical Mass cyclist Brussels to highlight the complicity of the European Union and international law violations by Israel.

§ Presenting a new report Stop the Wall to denounce Brazil's military relations with Israel.

  • The official launch of the new website BDSmovement.net, a new website for Global BDS Movement

can be videos, pictures and reports of all actions on an interactive map located on page Action Day, BDSmovement.net the new website.

Since 7 March onwards, students and solidarity organizations from more than 95 cities around the world participated in the 7th Week against the Apartheid Israeli (SAI / IAW), a series activities and educational events annually, coordinated worldwide in support of the appeal Palestinian civil society for boycott, divestment and Sanctions. To date, this has been the Israeli Apartheid Week more successful, in North America, Europe, Latin America and Australia, most cities that have never hosted the week's activities. It is encouraging that also have held events UPS / IAW in places like Israel, the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip, in a record nine cities, and for the first time in Beirut, Tripoli and Amman.

BDS Movement has achieved important victories in this period. South Africa University of Johannesburg voted to end the relationship with the University Ben Gurion, a move that undoubtedly will have repercussions throughout the world. London United Kingdom, BDS activists knew that as a result of their campaigns, the infrastructure provider Veolia has been ruled out for a contract waste worth 1,630 million pounds, Ahava, manufacturing company cosmetics, will not be renewed the lease of its headquarters in London shopping.

strength, variety, creativity, size and scale, both the BDS as World Day of the Week of Action Against Israeli Apartheid, is a true source of encouragement. Our undeniable global movement is growing, spreading to new countries and areas of policy, developing new tactics and new, original promotional tools, and achieving concrete successes. This period of global coordination of the mobilization has been an important step towards the progressive isolation of Israel and to liberty, justice and equality for the Palestinian people.

Campaign "Stop the Jewish National Fund"

The Palestinian National Committee for the BDS has called for a Global Action Day in commemoration of Palestinian Land Day.
The March 30, 2011, join the international campaign
Stop the Jewish National Fund

The Palestinian Land Day is the annual commemoration of the 1976 general strike and marches against land expropriation by Israel in which six Palestinians were killed and hundreds of others imprisoned and wounded by the forces of repression. Since then he has been a day that reminds many decades of Palestinian resistance to displacement and dispossession, historical and current.

A key pillar of the colonization of Palestine, from the founding of the State of Israel until now, has been the Jewish National Fund (JNF), commonly known as a Castilian Jewish National Fund (JNF). JNF enjoys the status of "charitable organization" in over 50 countries, despite their role in the displacement of Palestinians from their land, stealing their property, financing colonies until today and the destruction of natural environment.

The Day Earth 2011 will be put in place internationally coordinated campaign to challenge the JNF-KKL. As part of the global movement for boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) in solidarity with the struggle for Palestinian liberation, and until the State of Israel to implement and respect international law, the Palestinian National Committee for the BDS and many other organizations call global civil society to join in the campaign to counter the JNF.

Join the campaign to stop the JNF. The campaign is already underway in Britain, Canada, France and USA, and now extends to Palestine, including Israel.

To join the campaign
• Sign the international call: http://www.stopthejnf.org/callforaction.html
• Includes the JNF in your activities and solidarity with Palestine BDS.

The University of Johannesburg (South Africa) cuts relations with the Israeli Ben-Gurion University

South Africa.
03/23/2011. The University of Johannesburg precedent to cut ties with the Israeli Ben-Gurion University

Institute of Political Studies for Latin America and Africa · Palestinian BDS National Committee · Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel .

Today, setting a precedent around the world for academic boycott of Israel, the University of Johannesburg (UJ) has effectively cut ties with the Israeli Ben-Gurion University (BGU).

This was after the Senate rejected a final motion UJ desperate group of pro-Israel lobby to have two separate bilateral agreements - one with a Palestinian university and one with an Israeli. The UJ preferred to keep his former Senate resolution requires taking the leadership of the Palestinian universities. Palestinian universities unanimously rejected any collaboration with Ben-Gurion University (in whatever form) and have come out in full support of the academic boycott of Israel. The UJ chose to respect this.

The UJ is the first official institution that cuts relations with an Israeli university - a milestone in the growing season Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) of Israel. Throughout the campaign, academics and international human rights activists have been waiting for this decision. This decision to boycott, from a South African institution, is of particular importance.! This has set a precedent and must be started a domino effect of boycott!.

The move to end ties with the University of BG was driven by the overwhelming support given to the request of the UJ ( www.ujpetition.com ) - A campaign statement and support of scholars and students UJ asking the university to end its relationship with the apartheid era Ben-Gurion University. Since the UJ Senate met today, over 400 scholars from Africa, including nine Vice-Chancellors and Deputy Vice-Chancellors, have signed the petition of the UJ.

Included in the list of accessions are some of the most important voices of South Africa: Neville Alexander teachers, Kader Asmal, Allan Boesak, Breyten Breytenbach, John Dugard, Antjie Krog, Barney Pityana and Sampi Terreblanche. The popular South African cartoonist Jonathan "Zapiro" Shapiro, the Nobel laureate Desmond Tutu, the bishop Rubin Phillips, former Minister Ronnie Kasrils and social activist Zackie Achmat leader also backed the campaign.

also more than 100 international matches began to provide support, including several prominent international scholars: Professors Judith Butler, Vijay Prashad, Michael Burawoy, Wendy Brown, Ernesto Laclau, and the acclaimed British author John Berger. Today

UJ has made history for the defense and promotion of academic moral integrity. Palestinian, South African and international academic community and supportive community celebrate this decisive victory in the isolation of Israeli apartheid and support for freedom, dignity and justice for the Palestinian people. The UJ is now the anti-apartheid movement against Israeli Apartheid.

Deputy Vallespín (DC): There are reasons, "political, ethical and moral" not to move forward FTA with Israel

Saturday March 5, 2011

said about that "Israel has too many outstanding issues on Human Rights, international resolutions that have not met, a scenario undoubtedly does not support free trade and less with Chile. Our country must set an example in terms of safeguarding human rights, especially with our history known to the world. " on outstanding issues, Vallespín explained that "Israel has no borders recognized and legitimized by the international community and does not allow free trade to an occupied territory as Palestine."

added that "Chile must be extremely rigorous and respectful of international treaties. The Human Rights Council United Nations has given numerous reports condemning Israel for its systematic violation of human rights. "

addition.

said that Israel has not respected the decision of the 4 th Geneva Convention, which requires states to comply fully occupying the inhabitants of the occupied territories and calls for compensation for them. "One hundred and twenty countries have declared, through the United Nations, the illegality of the wall built by Israel regarding the occupied territories and called him down. "

DC The senator referred also to the impossibility of advancing free trade considering that "part of the assets that could be traded are produced by settlers in the occupied territories."

Finally, he cited the resolution 332 of the General Council of the United Nations, noting that "all the territories occupied by force are not considered attached and must be returned."

Cute Hairdos For Snowboarding

Roger Waters open letter calling for a boycott of Israel
http://www.cboicotisrael.blogspot.com/

In 1980, I wrote a song, Another Brick in the Wall Part 2, was banned by the South African government because it was used by black children South Africans to claim their right to equal education. That government imposed a blockade of cultural apartheid, so to speak, on some songs, including mine. Twenty years later, in 2005, Palestinian children who were attending a festival in the West Bank used the song to protest against the Israeli apartheid wall. They and they sang: "We do not need the occupation! We do not need the racist wall! "At that time, I had not seen it with my own eyes that what they were singing.

A year later, in 2006, was hired to perform in Tel Aviv. Under the protection of United Nations visited Jerusalem and Bethlehem. Nothing could have prepared me for what I saw that day. The building wall is repulsive. Is guarded by young Israeli soldiers who treated me, the casual observer from another world, with an aggression full of contempt. If it was me, a foreigner, imagine what should be with the Palestinians, with subproletarians, with carriers of authorizations. I knew then that my conscience would not let me fall away from the wall, the fate of the Palestinians I met, people whose lives are crushed daily in a thousand and one ways for the occupation of Israel. In solidarity, and some form of impotence, I wrote on the wall that day: "We do not need the control of ideas."

Whereas at the time that my presence at a scene of Tel Aviv would inadvertently legitimize the oppression that I had just witnessed, I canceled my concert in a football stadium in Tel Aviv and I changed to Neve-Shalom, a community farm dedicated to raising chickens and admirably to cooperation between people of different beliefs, where Muslims, Christians and Jews live and work lada by side in harmony.

Against all expectations, this event became the biggest musical event of the short history of Israel. To attend, some 60 thousand fans fought the traffic jams. It was extremely moving for me and the band and at the end of the concert, bound to encourage the youth to demand their government to achieve peace with its neighbors and to respect the civil rights of Palestinians living in Israel.

Unfortunately, the years that followed, the Israeli government made no attempt to enact legislation to ensure the Israeli Arab civil rights equal to those of Israeli Jews, and the wall grew inexorably annexing more and more the West Bank.
learned on that day in 2006, in Bethlehem, some of what it means to live under occupation, imprisoned behind a wall. Means that a Palestinian farmer has to see how ancient olive trees are uprooted. Means that a Palestinian student can not go to school because the passing of control is closed. Means that a woman can give birth in a car, because the soldier will not let go to the hospital which is ten minutes from there. Means that a Palestinian artist is unable to travel abroad to showcase their work or to show the film in an international festival. For the population of Gaza, locked in a virtual prison wall behind the illegal blockade of Israel, means a number of other injustices. Means that children go to bed hungry, many of them chronically malnourished. Means that parents, preventing them from working in a decimated economy, have no means of supporting their families. Means that college students with scholarships to study abroad have to find a chance to escape because they are not authorized to travel.
In my opinion, disgusting and draconian control exercised by Israel on Palestinians in Gaza fence and the Palestinians in the occupied West Bank (including East Jerusalem), and the denial of the right of refugees to return to their homes in Israel, requires people with a sense of justice throughout the world to support Palestinian civil resistance, non-violent.
where governments refuse to act, people must, by the peaceful means that we would have at their disposal. For some this meant to join the Freedom March in Gaza, for others it meant joining the fleet tried to bring humanitarian Gaza much needed humanitarian aid.

that means for me declare my intention to stay united, not only with the support of the people of Palestine, but with many thousands of Israelis who disagree with the racist and colonial policies of their government, joining the campaign of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel until it grants the three basic human rights required by international law.

1. Ending the occupation and colonization of all Arab lands (occupied since 1967) and dismantling the Wall;

2. Recognizing the fundamental rights of the Palestinian Arab citizens of Israel in full equality, and

3. Respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in Resolution 194, United Nations.

My conviction stems from the idea that all people deserve basic human rights. My position is not anti-Semitic. This is not an attack on the people of Israel. This is, therefore, call upon my colleagues in the music industry and artists from other areas to join the cultural boycott.

artists were right to refuse to act in Sun City, South Africa until apartheid fell, and even blacks and whites might enjoy the same rights. And we have rights to refuse to perform in Israel until the day, and that day will surely come-on to drop the wall of the occupation and the Palestinians live alongside Israelis in peace, freedom, justice and dignity for all they deserve.

Declaration of Jewish activists and Jewish organizations active in the BDS against Israel

A Jewish response to the Declaration of February Organizations 2011 Jewish Zionist about the Campaign for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel.

Since boycotts, divestment and sanctions academic, cultural and trade to Israel:

are being called by the Palestinian Civil Society in response to the occupation and colonization of their land ,

are a moral tool of non-violent response to peaceful and more than sixty years of Israeli colonialism, and

fairly call require accountability of institutions Israelis (and their allies and partners) who profit from business links, cultural and academic whitening Israel's responsibility for ongoing crimes against humanity,

The undersigned organizations and individuals maintain our support immovable initiatives Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel until it fulfills its obligation to recognize the inalienable right of Palestinian people to self-determination and fully complies with the dictates of international law.
  • BDS
  • not anti-Semitic. reject the notion that the Palestinian call for BDS 2005 and BDS campaigns around the world that it has inspired, have their roots in anti-Jewish sentiment. By contrast, BDS is an anti-racist movement against the brutal occupation of Palestine and the daily military threat to the region by the State of Israel. False accusations of antisemitism distort the true nature of the Palestinian struggle and are an insult and a betrayal of the long history of Jewish survival and resistance to persecution.

BDS is not anti-democratic.

also reject the assertion that the academic and cultural boycott of Israel defying the democratic principle of freedom of expression. Research and development in academic institutions play a central role in the design and defense of military and intelligence machinery of Israel. Cultural institutions perpetuate the fraud of Israeli democracy. Defending freedom of expression of those who despise justice and demonize those who struggle for justice is a disservice to genuine democracy.

through boycott, divestment and sanctions, civil society affirms our commitment not to help finance the State of Israel, carried out heinous acts of disregard for life and human welfare. Attacks BDS campaigns not prevent us from taking this stance against Israeli impunity. For Jewish organizations signing this letter, self-determination includes the right of Jews to participate in the movement for justice in Palestine and live in peace, freedom and equality with our fellow citizens in the world. It does not include the domination and colonization of other people or the right to live separately from our peers in a state that privileges Jews.

BDS has been a key strategy to end the South African system white apartheid through the application of international pressure. In pursuit of justice, peace and freedom for all, we speak as Jews committed to the BDS and the Palestinian liberation. We welcome organizations and individuals who want to join us in condemning the false accusations of anti-Semitism in an attempt to discredit our collective anti-racist activism against the Israeli apartheid. Dt Digital Cambridge Soundworks

Are the links to direct downloads are now illegal?

Yesterday we learned of a ruling by the Audiencia Provincial de Barcelona for the appeal was known to ruling dismissing claims against elrincondejesus.com SGAE. It seems like a very novel sentence. So far, all court rulings had found that provide links to works protected by copyright posed no public communication or any intellectual property infringement. However, the decision of the Audiencia Provincial de Barcelona seems to match the existing majority opinion so far, so stated in the press , which entitled it has been condemned by "links to direct downloads" . Let's see if it is.

The ruling states that from the site in question could do three things: 1 .-
direct downloading of music files.
2 .- Play music streaming . "
3 .- Access P2P links.

is in the first two points where we should focus, because what the sentence says is that from that page to download could directly and listening to streaming phonograms. That is, we would not be a case of links, but that public communication is made by defendant's own website, as is offered by the archives, either for download or to listen online . Thus the court ruling is logical and expected, and there is nothing new.

Thus, the sentence is truly amazing, but not because he has declared illegal something that no other judge had done, but because they change the facts. Certainly leaves quite puzzled now appears that from this site itself is engaged in acts of public communication, when it was assumed that there was nothing but links. Moreover, the statement adds, which is surprising, that "the defendant himself in the act of the trial, acknowledged" . It's so strange that may be thought that the judges have confounded the links to direct downloads to the fact that these were hosted on the web, which is not the same, obviously.

In any case, if we stick to the text of the sentence, which must be made clear is that at no time is said to provide direct links to downloads or works streaming pose a public communication, so we continue as we were before: the web pages of links do not violate property rights intellectual.

Frente ao Gilberto Gil em Defesa do Não

http://liberdadepalestina.blogspot.com/2011/02/carta-ao- gilberto-gil-to-ADER-ao.html

February 3, 2011

Dear Gilberto Gil,

As longtime admirers of his music and aware of your commitment to freedom and social justice, and how activists were surprised and troubled to know that you want to do a concert in Israel in April.

participation in a concert in Israel is not a neutral act, devoid of any political message. As said the late Howard Zinn: You can not be neutral on a moving train. By participating in an event in Israel, you support the campaign to cover up Israeli violations of international law and projecting a false image of normality. Any statement you wish to make through their participation in this event would be overshadowed by the fact that you're crossing a picket line established by most international organizations of civil society in Palestine. Indeed, a just peace message would reach more people, including Israelis, if you cancel your participation.

Since the war Israel against Gaza in December 2008 and January 2009 that left 1,400 Palestinians dead and led the Goldstone declared that Israel committed war crimes, many international artists have refused to play in a country that puts itself above the rights and humantos international law. After the Israeli attack on a ship bound for humanitarian aid to Gaza in May last year, the number of artists grew. Elvis Costello, Gil Scott Heron, Carlos Santana, Roger Waters, Devendra Banhart, and the Pixies are just some of the artists refused to perform concerts in Israel last year.

We asked him to join the growing list of respected artists who have the boycott call.

During recent decades, from the Civil Rights movement in the U.S. until the anti-war movements around the world, when our governments fail to apprehend those responsible for grave human rights violations, we have the responsibility to do so. The South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu said: "If apartheid ended in South Africa, this occupation will also end, but the moral force and international pressure will have to be so certain about." The Palestinian call for BDS comes from the Palestinian civil society to civil society around the world, including Israel, to join this liberation movement.

We are happy to discuss this more thoroughly with you and support you in both is needed. We are simply asking you to do so in a way not to hurt growth led by global BDS movement of the Palestinian cause. With all due respect for his legacy of resistance in the Brazilian military dictatorship, freedom and against racism in the world we invite you to participate in this struggle for justice and cancel his concert in Israel in April.

With great respect,
